Significant Drug Trafficking Conviction in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a notable operation against interstate drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) from the Bhubaneswar Zonal Unit has successfully convicted two men involved in the illegal transportation of Ganja.

The court has sentenced both individuals to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.

This case traces back to August 2020, when authorities seized 175 kg of Ganja hidden beneath pumpkins in a truck.

The shipment, which originated in Odisha, was en route to West Bengal. NCB officials apprehended Shailesh Saradaprasad Pandey from Thane, Maharashtra, and Juber Ahamad from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, at the scene.

Following an extensive investigation, the NCB lodged a complaint in February 2021. On August 13, the Second Additional District and Sessions Judge in Bhubaneswar found both defendants guilty under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.

This ruling underscores the NCB's commitment to eradicating drug-related issues in India through thorough investigations and legal actions.
